Joy’s Side
I first met Kevin on 9th July 2022 during a Music Sabbath at PUEA. I was among the choristers that day, and Kevin was looking for Esther Getubo. I simply pointed him in the right direction.
When Esther introduced us, she jokingly told Kevin, “Meet my small sister.” I immediately corrected her because I am actually older than her by six months. That funny little moment became our very first conversation.
Later, during an Alive Kenya prayer night in 2023, I was going through a difficult season. Kevin was playing the piano while I was among the choristers. I remember him trying to teach me the violin, just to make me smile. I appreciated his kindness, but at that time, my heart was not ready for love. To me, he was just a good friend.
Kevin eventually asked me out during another Music Sabbath. I was completely surprised. I respected his honesty and the way he expressed himself, but I was still healing from a previous situation. I knew I could not say yes when my heart was not ready, so I politely declined.
What stood out to me was that Kevin did not disappear. He did not pressure me either. He kept checking on me gently, with simple messages and genuine care. Over time, I began to see his heart more clearly.
When he asked again, I prayed deeply about it. I wanted to be sure. I eventually felt peace from God, and I decided to give him what I jokingly called a “six-month probation period.”
On 2nd October 2023, I finally said yes. What started as a simple friendship slowly became a beautiful love story, and today I am grateful for how God led us here.
